THAILAND - BANGKOK

Well, it's been a while since I've posted seeing as my partner and I have been in Thailand for two weeks; you're safe to assume that I was having such a good time there wasn't a moment I could bring myself to waste at the computer to write a post.

I decided to break up the trip into seperate posts, and seeing as we spent a few days in Bangkok to begin with, that's where I'll start. We flew out of the Gold Coast on Boxing Day with Air Asia. After the flight and a 4.5 hour lay over in Kuala Lumpur I've decided it's worth paying the extra couple hundred bucks to avoid a budget airline. Renting blankets and literally no entertainment isn't worth it. Luckily we were smart and brought our laptops and phones preloaded with TV Shows and Podcasts.

We arrived around midnight and headed straight to our hotel, Rambuttri Village Plaza, located less than 5 minutes walk from the infamous Khao San Road. If you're looking for a good spot in Bangkok, something close to the action but far enough away to chill Rambuttri is the area to go. Remember this is a tourist area, so prices are inflated.

The hotel was good, it was basic but we didn't need much; it was just a place to sleep. The location was perfect, you couldn't really ask for much better. The rooms were clean, affordable and probably larger than most in the area. Keep in mind it's Thailand, as long as you're not expecting a 5 star resort this place is suitable.

The only concern I would have is the noise within the building. The walls are extremely thin and you can hear everything in the hallway. If you're looking to sleep in maybe find another place in the area. They do have a buffet breakfast, but I suggest going without. You could spend the same amount if not less on breakfast elsewhere and I guarantee it would be better, and actually warm too.

We caught up with a friend who had been travelling on his own, island hopping. He was actually with my partner in Koh Phangan when we met 6 years ago. It was pretty surreal to all be in Thailand together again, I don't think any of us could have guessed that's where we'd end up in time. Funny how life works out. We perched ourselves at a bar on Khao San Road and caught up over a few beers while we people watched.

We wandered the streets, shopped, ate and treated ourselves to massages. It was the perfect introduction to our holiday. We also explored China Town, catching the ferry to different spots. It was cheap and a great way to see a different side of Bangkok.

We only spent two nights as we had to travel to Pattaya to meet our trainers and check into our Airbnb. It was a great time catching up over a few Leo's and a nice warm up before the craziness we were bound to enter at our next spot.
